Making history, being the first ever recipient from Tripura State apart from East India and North East India, Tripura Science Teacher Shri Anjan Banik from Agartala has been honoured with the National Award for Science and Technology Communications, the highest civilian honour for the promotion of science & technology and Science communication that conferred by the Department of Science & Technology and Ministry of Science & Technology of the Government of India along with the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC). The National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) an autonomous body of the Government of India instituted in 1987 to stimulate, encourage and recognise outstanding efforts in the area of science popularisation and communication prescribing different six categories, which award is equivalent to Padmashree Award in the field of science popularisation and communication.
Shri Anjan Banik, Assistant Science Teacher serving for last one decade and now in service under the West Tripura District Education Department rooted to the Directorate of Secondary Education of School Education Department of the Govt of Tripura, has been awarded in category fifth ( E) under the initiative of total six awards of the National Council for Science and Technology Communication under the Government of India and the Ministry of Science and Technology. The fifth category of this highest civilian national award in the field of science communication is awarded to honour in recognition of the outstanding effort & contributions in science & technology communication and for promoting science through innovative and traditional methods.
The first ever celebration of this year's National Science Day after a holistic declaration of Amrit Kaal remembering the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the national celebration of National Science Day 2023 has been organized on February 28, 2023 at the National Stage of Vigyan Bhawan at New Delhi, where there was Dr Jitendra Singh – Union Minister of Science & Technology and Minister of Earth Sciences of the Government of India with an independent charge of Prime Minister's Office along with former Principal Scientific Adviser renowned Scientist of India Prof K Vijaya Raghavan, In Chair Principal Scientific Adviser renowned Scientist of India Prof A K Sood, Hon’ble Union Secretary of Ministry of Science & Technology Prof S Chandrasekhar and Head of National Council for Science and Technology Communication under the Government of India Dr M Mohanty.
In this grand ceremonial celebration, ever first-time award recipient from Tripura, Shri Anjan Banik has been presented the memorable silver momento by the Union Minister of the Minister of Science & Technology and Ministry of Earth Sciences of the Government of India with the acting minister in charge of Prime Minister's Office Dr Jitendra Singh and invited all the awardees to move forward with the moto of Prime minister Shri Narendra Modi ji to transform India into World Leader in the field of Science & technology.
Besides, Shri Anjan Banik, only recipient of concern category as selected out of huge nominations at national level, congratulated with special award certificate by the recently superannuated Principal Scientific Advisor of the Government of India and the country's one greatest scientist Professor K Vijay Raghavan with the newly appointed Principal Scientific Advisor of the Government of India Professor A K Sood. Union Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Government of India Dr S Chandrasekhar and the Head of National Council for Science and Technology Communication Scientist Dr Manoranjan Mohanti was remain present on dais with the Union Minister and congratulate all the eight recipients of all six categories. In addition to the congratulatory, Hon’ble Union Secretary of Ministry of Science & Technology of the Government of India Dr S Chandrasekhar, as the phase of the national award, also invited to a special grand dinner for awardees from his initiative organized at the Janardan Dining Hall of the Indian Hebitate Center, Lodhi Road New Delhi.
The special publication of event Souvenir in terms of the announcement of the National Awards for Science & Technology Communication for the year of contribution till 2022 from the Ministry of Science & Technology of the Government of India and the National Council for Science & Technology Communication mentioned the praiseworthy words and detailed that Anjan Banik, Assistant Science Teacher serving for last one decade under Directorate of Secondary Education Govt of Tripura, is one dedicated science communicator from Northeast India marching forward with his leadership to national level science communication highlighting a new age idea of Meta-Cognitive approach in science communication to insist student community to be future scientist & to mould teachers into Super Teacher-Scientist to transform science classes & science education into gold standard towards shaping whole School Generation as Scientific Nation for New India.
Anjan Banik has notable active contributions in the field of science communication, science writing, science journalism, science education, science communicational research, science popularisation movement for last 28 years converting the barriers of Northeast into resources being a frontliner & connected globally acclaimed living legendary scientist community even with back-bencher students for good guidance.
Anjan Banik is trying utmost to implement his dream of newer Meta-Cognitive approach in science communication using the unique fusion methodology to develop science mathematical cognition with holistic integration & enculturation of folk culture like puppetry, painting & with Digital revolutions like virtual simulators, film making & E-quizzing to preserve the lost traditional culture at this digital era in innovative ways as an exemplar from the cornered zone of NE India.
During Post Pandemic situation, with an added value to last 25 years long experiences, Anjan Banik redefined & revived science communication along with science mathematical education through its virtual forms & connected the whole nation & international target population including record numbers of teachers, and students aiming to be future scientists through his solo initiative of conducted events like “India International Sarabhai Student Scientist Award 2020-2023”, “Sir JC Bose International Science Math Puppetry Film Festival Award 2020-2023”, “Dr APJ Abdul Kalam India International Student Scientist’s Innovation Award 2022-23” & “Rashtiya Swarnim Shiksha Mahotsav 2022-2047” etc, conferred appreciation through research paper presentation & publications of more than 8 papers at different national events under Govt of India. His dedication has been now voluntarily supported by Scientists and concern event certificates are regularly signed as a token of inspiration by living legend Scientists of NASA, ISRO, Kennedy Space centre, Johnson Space Centre, Vigyan Prasar, DST, PRL-ISRO, ISRO-SAC & NCERT, due to unparallel efforts of Anjan Banik. Since 2012, Anjan Banik is trying to reach to the untouched remotest schools & under-privilege student populations through ensuring first time participation of grassroot level of students’ involving ST, SC & Religious Minorities especially Muslim & Girls students in NCERT science Exhibitions, NCSTC children science congress & ISCA science congress.
He is Life Member of ISCA-Indian Science Congress Association since 2012, Indian and International Science Writers Association-ISWA since 1999, AMIC-Singapore since 1999 and volunteering as National Chairman of largest national council-club of researchers teachers’ scientists - National Council of Researcher Teacher Scientists India (NCRTS-India) under VIPNET Vigyan Prasar DST Govt of India and other wing VOs.
Anjan Banik has been presented & published 26 Research paper on science education, science communications at RIEs, NCERT, CSIR, NIScPR, DST, ISWA, ISCOS, DAE, IISF, ISCC, NCSTC, IJSC-ISCOS etc national & international events & journals. He was awarded with Teacher Innovation Award 2019 by Sri Aurobindo Society, Puduchery; UN Environment Hero 2019 Certificate of UNDP, MOE NAT 2021 Dhalai District Level of Directorate of Secondary Education Govt of Tripura, National Best Science Teacher Award 2018, Rashtriya Nabachari Shiksha Ratna Samman 2022 & VIPNET club coordinator’s felicitation.
